Gender Practice Team Leader for the Arab Region

Dr. Maya Morsy, who has joined the Regional Center in Cairo on March 11 as the Gender Practice Team Leader for the Arab Region. Maya joins us from UN Women where she was Country Coordinator and the Head of Office of UN Women Egypt. She served for many years as the Country Program Manager for UNIFEM in Egypt and also worked with the UNDP Policy Unit, and USAID. She served in the Academic Field Facilitator for the undergraduate public administration and management department in the City University Program and in the Arab Academy for Science and technology through the Arab League.
She holds a PHD in Public Policy and Women's Human Security from She had a PHD in Public Policies from the Arab Regional Academic Institute and Cairo University Supervision on Public Policies and Women Human Security in the Arab Region as well as a Masters of Business Administration and Public Administration from City University in Seattle, USA.
As a Gender and Public Policy Expert, Maya has worked for the past 18 years, in women human rights, gender budgeting, performance based budgeting and planning, gender mainstreaming, M&E, with specialization on Women’s Human Security. She has co-authored several publications and training modules on Arab Women Progress, CEDAW, Gender Equality and Democracy, Gender Discrimination, Arab Women’s Human Security, and Gender Perspective in Transitional Justice. Finally, she has also contributed to the development of the Arab Women, Peace and Security Strategy, and the Violence Against Women Arab Strategy & Action Plan in addition to the CEDAW indicators in the Arab Region.
