    Social Good Summit in NYC goes global

    New York —The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is partnering with Mashable, the United Nations Foundation, the New York City-based community and cultural center 92Y, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Ericsson for the Social Good Summit – a series of global online and in-person gatherings of thousands of citizens, activists, technologists, and celebrities. Each of the events will focus on bringing new voices to the discussion of how new media and technology can play a role in solving the world's most pressing problems.

    MOU between Live Lebanon & BBAC

    Today, at the Phoenicia hotel, UNDP (United Nations Development Programme)and BBAC (Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries) signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of Mr. Robert Watkins, UNDP’s Resident Representative, Mr. Ghassan Assaf, BBAC’s Chairman and General Manager, Mr. Milad Nammour, representing Mr. Haytham Joumaa the General Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants – Directorate of Emigrants Affairs, delegations from BBAC and UNDP, in addition to representatives from local and international organizations and members from the press.

    Anti-bullying project takes off with the help of KNPC

    In an aim to reduce the amount of bullying in schools and to decrease the evident violence that stems from it, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) signed a new agreement with the United Nations Development Programme in Kuwait. The project is titled “Fostering Youth Resiliency in Kuwait and it aims to combat violence amongst Kuwaiti youth in schools. KNPC Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. Fahed S. Al-Ajmi, and UNDP Resident Representative (a.i.) in Kuwait, Mr. Stein R. Hansen signed the Human & Social Development project to initiate the campaign.

    UNDP Seeks to empower civil society in Iraq

    UNDP Iraq is launching an opportunity to provide financial support for Iraqi Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to effectively support initiatives that empower citizens to promote and monitor government accountability. Selected CSO consortia will be issued with grants of between $50,000 to $150,000 to implement projects that promote better service delivery, anti-corruption and human and civil rights in Iraq. Approximately one million dollars have been allocated for CSO grant funds.

    The Government of Japan and UNDP handed over houses to families in Gaza

    Gaza – Today 120 families are the proud owners of houses handed over to them by the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme in Khan Younis. Mr Hideaki Yamamoto, Deputy Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, Yasmine Sherif, UNDP Deputy Special Representative and representatives from 20 families, attended the ceremony at UNDP offices in Gaza.

    United Nations System in Yemen hails Riyadh donor meeting

    The two-day meeting of Yemen’s donors 4-5 September has demonstrated the commitment of the international community to support Yemen to overcome current development and humanitarian challenges in addition to ensuring the timely and honest implementation of the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, UN Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator said: “The message from the donors was clear, that Yemen deserves urgent support to ensure a successful transition to a stable nation. Several donors highlighted the humanitarian crisis faced by the country and the need to address it.”

    Empowering cities on disaster risk reduction training of trainees for the municipalities

    On Tuesday, 4th of September, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, the opening ceremony of the Training of Trainers on the role of local governments in making cities more resilient to disasters was launched at the Grand Serail. This training was organized due to the continuous joint efforts of the United Nations Development Programme, the Prime Minister’s office and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on the subject of disaster risk reduction.

    PACC and UNDP sign USD 270,000 agreement to enhance anti-corruption efforts

    Ramallah, 30 August 2012 - The Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in the presence of the European Union Coordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support (EUPOL COPPS), signed an agreement worth USD 270,000 to enhance anti-corruption efforts and increase citizen’s participation in the occupied Palestinian territory.
