    Members of the Arab States Regional United Nations Development Group met yesterday, together with colleagues from the World Bank, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, and the Resident Coordinators for Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and of course Jordan. Enjoying the hospitality of Amman, we came together to discuss our approaches for supporting people, communities and States under stress as a result of the Syria conflict.

    New help desk in Baghdad’s oldest court provides free legal assistance to women and most vulnerable

    A new legal help desk in Baghdad’s Rusafa Courthouse was inaugurated after Iraq’s Higher Judicial Council (HJC) partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Iraqi non-governmental organisation Dar Al Khibra to provide free legal services to indigent Iraqi citizens as part of a larger effort to strengthen the administration of and citizens’ access to justice in the country.

    The Innovation and Creativity Award winners announced in Yemen

    A press conference was convened today 31 October 2013 at Al-Bustan Hotel to honor the winners of the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. Twenty eight youth from around Yemen were impatient for 31st of October the day, in which sixteen innovative and creative business ideas won the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. The award rewards the youth innovative business ideas with $20,000 for each project. The winning projects will receive additional technical implementation support to ensure that there are successfully implemented.

    Countering land degradation and water scarcity in Tafilalet

    Three Arab countries and Chad agree to water management programme

    Vienna - Seeking to improve their management of water resources, Three Arab countries and Chad today agreed at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to establish a long-term framework for utilizing a key underground water system. Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Chad signed a Strategic Action Programme (SAP) that aims to optimize the equitable use of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System, a huge water resource that lies beneath the four nations.
