Helen Clark: Speech at Launch of UNDP Regional Bureau of Arab State Report on “Water Governance in the Arab Region: managing scarcity and securing the future”
For sustainable and equitable access to improved water and sanitation services to be achieved, the Report launched today emphasizes the need to focus not only on increasing the supply of water, but also on promoting its efficient use and allocation. Manama – Water challenges must be addressed if the Arab region is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, attain prosperity, and reach a future of sustainable human development, says a new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report launched today in Bahrain. Addressing water challenges now can also help strengthen resilience by managing the risk of potential crises that could result from inaction: such as unplanned migration, economic collapse, or regional conflict, according to the report entitled: “Water Governance in the Arab Region: Managing Scarcity and Securing the Future.”

UNDP presents "Municipal Needs Assessment" Report in support to the Jordanian communities hosting Syrian refugees
During a meeting chaired by HE the Minister of Municipalities Affairs, Eng. Wlid Almasri, and attended by the Country Director of UNDP, Ms. Zena Ali Ahmad, and the Director of the Local Development Directorate at the Ministry of Interior,The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented a Municipal Needs Assessment Report, conducted in Mafraq and Irbid Governorates from August to November 2013.

The Right to Education: USD 3.8 million from the government of Norway to support the education system in East Jerusalem through UNDP
Ramallah – On behalf of His Excellency Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah, Dr Saed Al Kony - Minister of Local Government announced the signing of a USD 3.8 million agreement to support the Right to Education in East Jerusalem project between the Government of Norway, represented by Hans Jacob Frydenlund, and UNDP’s Special Representative of the Administrator Frode Mauring.

The Government of Italy contributes 3 million Euro in support of area C and East Jerusalem through UNDP
Ramallah – His Excellency Prime Minister Rami Al Hamdallah announced today a three million Euro contribution from the Government of Italy in support of the Facilitating Access to Infrastructure Resilience in Area C and East Jerusalem programme (FAIR) in the presence of H.E. Davide La Cecilia, Consul General of Italy and Mr Frode Mauring, UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator.

SANA'A - a cost sharing agreement between the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNDP was signed on 13 November 2013 between Ms. Renate Pors Acting Charge’ d Affair and Head of Development Cooperation at the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy in Yemen and UNDP Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen for an amount of $754,876 to support Transitional Justice Project in Yemen. This contribution will be dedicated for activities related to Civil Society Organizations, raising awareness on transitional justice and outreach.

60 trainees complete business skills workshops in Jordanian governorates affected by the Syrian crisis
UNDP and Ruwwad Micro-Venture Fund (RMVF) organized a graduation ceremony at the Greater Municipality Hall in Mafraq, for 60 trainees who successfully completed the first two rounds of “Planning your own Small Business” Training Workshops, as part of the “Mitigating the Impact of the Syrian Refugee Crisis on the Jordanian Host Communities" Project.

A new legal help desk in Baghdad’s Rusafa Courthouse was inaugurated after Iraq’s Higher Judicial Council (HJC) partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Iraqi non-governmental organisation Dar Al Khibra to provide free legal services to indigent Iraqi citizens as part of a larger effort to strengthen the administration of and citizens’ access to justice in the country.

A press conference was convened today 31 October 2013 at Al-Bustan Hotel to honor the winners of the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. Twenty eight youth from around Yemen were impatient for 31st of October the day, in which sixteen innovative and creative business ideas won the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. The award rewards the youth innovative business ideas with $20,000 for each project. The winning projects will receive additional technical implementation support to ensure that there are successfully implemented.
