'Sneezing Firas” play on disaster risk reduction

“Sneezing Firas” is the title of the play that was  performed in front of 620 students from different public schools in Beirut, South, Bekaa and Mount Lebanon at the UNESCO palace on Tuesday 9th of October, aiming to raise awareness on disaster risk reduction and prevention. 

In the context of the Lebanese Government commitment to Disaster Risk Reduction, and within the joint program between UNDP and the Lebanese Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the United Nations Development Programme organized this event which was under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, in the presence of the General Director of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Mr. Fadi Yarak. 

In his speech, Mr. Yarak asked the students to concentrate on the content of the Play to understand the threats of the disaster and how to be prepared. He also asked them to convey the message to their relatives and friends to raise their awareness and sensitize them on the importance of preparedness. 

The Play showed Lebanon’s situation regarding different disasters that might affect the country, including earthquakes, tsunamis, fires and it demonstrated different ways of prevention. 

At the end of the play, the students received two booklets on disaster risk reduction and prevention entitled “Nader & Layla” and “Friends Power“.
