    UNDP and League of Arab States Join Hands for Development in the Arab Region

    New York – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the League of Arab States signed today a cooperation agreement, creating a framework for joint work in support of human development across the Arab region. The partnership, which calls for cooperation on the wide range of development areas which are central to the two institutions’ respective mandates, is intended to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of development cooperation, and enhance development results across for the peoples of the Arab region.

    Seeds of hope and joy: famous Iraqi musician returns to Baghdad for peace concert

    To mark International Peace Day in Iraq, the world famous Iraqi musician Nasseer Shamma gave his first performance in Baghdad for over 20 years at the National Theatre. His appearance was the main attraction at a music concert that UNDP organised for the first time in Iraq.

    MOU between Live Lebanon & BBAC

    Today, at the Phoenicia hotel, UNDP (United Nations Development Programme)and BBAC (Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries) signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of Mr. Robert Watkins, UNDP’s Resident Representative, Mr. Ghassan Assaf, BBAC’s Chairman and General Manager, Mr. Milad Nammour, representing Mr. Haytham Joumaa the General Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants – Directorate of Emigrants Affairs, delegations from BBAC and UNDP, in addition to representatives from local and international organizations and members from the press.

    Anti-bullying project takes off with the help of KNPC

    In an aim to reduce the amount of bullying in schools and to decrease the evident violence that stems from it, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) signed a new agreement with the United Nations Development Programme in Kuwait. The project is titled “Fostering Youth Resiliency in Kuwait and it aims to combat violence amongst Kuwaiti youth in schools. KNPC Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. Fahed S. Al-Ajmi, and UNDP Resident Representative (a.i.) in Kuwait, Mr. Stein R. Hansen signed the Human & Social Development project to initiate the campaign.

    UNDP Seeks to empower civil society in Iraq

    UNDP Iraq is launching an opportunity to provide financial support for Iraqi Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to effectively support initiatives that empower citizens to promote and monitor government accountability. Selected CSO consortia will be issued with grants of between $50,000 to $150,000 to implement projects that promote better service delivery, anti-corruption and human and civil rights in Iraq. Approximately one million dollars have been allocated for CSO grant funds.

    Empowering cities on disaster risk reduction training of trainees for the municipalities

    On Tuesday, 4th of September, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, the opening ceremony of the Training of Trainers on the role of local governments in making cities more resilient to disasters was launched at the Grand Serail. This training was organized due to the continuous joint efforts of the United Nations Development Programme, the Prime Minister’s office and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on the subject of disaster risk reduction.
