    UNDP and Jordan sign historic agreement to open a Regional Centre in Amman

    New York, On the margins of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Sima Bahous, UNDP Regional Director for Arab States, and His Excellency Mr. Nasser Judeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, signed an agreement to open a Regional Centre in Amman. The singing comes as part of implementation of UNDP’s structural review designed to bring its support ever closer to the countries it serves.

    “Rights of Peoples to Peace”, celebrated by the UN and the Iraqi Council of Representatives

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Parliament Speaker, Dr. Salim Al-Juburi today hosted a ceremony to mark the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated each year around the world on 21 September.     Qatar donates $88.5 Million for Darfur

    New York, The State of Qatar signed a USD 88.5 million grant agreement with the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund, administered by UNDP, to finance recovery and reconstruction in Darfur, Sudan. It is the single largest donation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations.

    US$1.8M to support the Iraqi Parliament and promote civil society’s engagement in the legislative process

    As part of its continued support to Iraq’s parliament, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today signed with the Council of Representatives in Baghdad a project of US$1,797,999 funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden. This initiative aims to strengthen the legislative and oversight role of the parliament, which now begins its third term following the April 2014 elections.

    Supporting local authorities with basic services for IDPs in Dohuk

    The Country Director of UNDP Iraq, Adam Abdelmoula, today met with the Governor of Dohuk, Farhad Amin Atroshi, to discuss support to IDPs and host communities, and signed an agreement with the Department of Underground Water on the drilling of two wells to serve 1000 vulnerable IDP in Dawoodia, Dohuk. He also visited the Syrian refugee camp in Domiz, and internally displaced people in Sharia area, Dohuk.

    UNDP Deliver Solid Waste Compactors to Irbid and Mafraq Governorate

    Under the patronage of the Minister of Municipalities Affaires, Engineer Waleed al Masri, UNDP and Japan Embassy handed over new solid waste compactors to Mafraq and Irbid governorates; specifically to Sabha and Al Dafyaneh, Um Jmal, AL-Salheyah and al Mafraq Municipalities located in Mafraq governorate and in Al Ramtha, Irbid municipalities located in Irbid governorate. The ceremony took place in Sabha and al Dafyaneh municipality in Mafraq on Tuesday, August 26. Attended the event; Ambassador of Japan, UNDP country Director, Mafraq and Irbid Governors and Director of the Local development directorate in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

    The Netherlands Signs Contribution Agreement to the UNDP/UN Women Joint Programme in Support of the Palestinian Rule of Law Sector
