Amman - The Host Communities Support Platform (HCSP), chaired by the Minister of Planning, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Saif convened a meeting on Thursday 9th January 2014 to endorse the Government’s National Resilience Plan (NRP). Partners discuss UNDP’s US$166 Million Resilience-based Development Response to the crisis in Syria and neighbouring Countries
Amman – Development partners from 18 countries and the EU meeting in Amman today agreed that the Kuwait II Pledging Conference for Syria, slated for 15 January 2014, should encompass support for critical development efforts to compliment the humanitarian response to the crisis in Syria and its spill over impacts on neighbouring countries. The meeting which brought together partners with long-standing experience and knowledge of the region and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Directors from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey endorsed UNDP’s Resilience-based Development Response in support of people and communities affected by the Syrian crisis in the five countries.

The UNDP's Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen and Mr. Anders Frankenberg, Head of MENA Unit of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) signed a Cost Sharing Agreement through which the SIDA will donate SEK 14,000,000 ($ 2,1 million, approximately) to support the Implementation of Transitional Justice Project in Yemen.

Manama – Water challenges must be addressed if the Arab region is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, attain prosperity, and reach a future of sustainable human development, says a new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report launched today in Bahrain. Addressing water challenges now can also help strengthen resilience by managing the risk of potential crises that could result from inaction: such as unplanned migration, economic collapse, or regional conflict, according to the report entitled: “Water Governance in the Arab Region: Managing Scarcity and Securing the Future.”

The Right to Education: USD 3.8 million from the government of Norway to support the education system in East Jerusalem through UNDP
