    US$ 1,300,000 allocated for creating job opportunities for youth in Sudan

    Khartoum - The Government of Sudan, The India, Brazil and South Africa Facility for Poverty and Hunger Alleviation (IBSA Fund) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) endorsed today a USD 1,300,000 project for the creation of youth employment opportunities in Sudan.

    UNDP: National leadership key to effective responses to the Syria crisis in neighboring countries

    Kuwait City– United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Chair of the Arab States/Middle East and North Africa Regional United Nations Development Group (UNDG) Sima Bahous appealed to the international community to scale-up investment in national development processes to mitigate the impact of the Syria crisis on neighbouring countries. Bahous made her appeal at a special event organized today in Kuwait City, within the framework of the Kuwait II International Pledging Conference for Syria.

    Host communities support platform set to endorse government-led national resilience plan

    Amman - The Host Communities Support Platform (HCSP), chaired by the Minister of Planning, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Saif convened a meeting on Thursday 9th January 2014 to endorse the Government’s National Resilience Plan (NRP). The NRP provides a strategic framework for Jordan’s response to the impact of the Syria crisis, with a focus on supporting Jordanian host communities in the most affected areas of the Kingdom.

    Partners discuss UNDP’s US$166 Million Resilience-based Development Response to the crisis in Syria and neighbouring Countries

    Amman – Development partners from 18 countries and the EU meeting in Amman today agreed that the Kuwait II Pledging Conference for Syria, slated for 15 January 2014, should encompass support for critical development efforts to compliment the humanitarian response to the crisis in Syria and its spill over impacts on neighbouring countries. The meeting which brought together partners with long-standing experience and knowledge of the region and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Directors from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey endorsed UNDP’s Resilience-based Development Response in support of people and communities affected by the Syrian crisis in the five countries.

    Swedish and UNDP signed a cost sharing agreement to support transitional justice

    The UNDP's Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen and Mr. Anders Frankenberg, Head of MENA Unit of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) signed a Cost Sharing Agreement through which the SIDA will donate SEK 14,000,000 ($ 2,1 million, approximately) to support the Implementation of Transitional Justice Project in Yemen.

    The Netherlands enters into an agreement with UNDP to support transitional justice in Yemen

    SANA'A - a cost sharing agreement between the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNDP was signed on 13 November 2013 between Ms. Renate Pors Acting Charge’ d Affair and Head of Development Cooperation at the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy in Yemen and UNDP Acting Resident Representative Mr. Mahamed Hassen for an amount of $754,876 to support Transitional Justice Project in Yemen. This contribution will be dedicated for activities related to Civil Society Organizations, raising awareness on transitional justice and outreach.

    New help desk in Baghdad’s oldest court provides free legal assistance to women and most vulnerable

    A new legal help desk in Baghdad’s Rusafa Courthouse was inaugurated after Iraq’s Higher Judicial Council (HJC) partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Iraqi non-governmental organisation Dar Al Khibra to provide free legal services to indigent Iraqi citizens as part of a larger effort to strengthen the administration of and citizens’ access to justice in the country.

    The Innovation and Creativity Award winners announced in Yemen

    A press conference was convened today 31 October 2013 at Al-Bustan Hotel to honor the winners of the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. Twenty eight youth from around Yemen were impatient for 31st of October the day, in which sixteen innovative and creative business ideas won the Youth Innovation and Creativity Award. The award rewards the youth innovative business ideas with $20,000 for each project. The winning projects will receive additional technical implementation support to ensure that there are successfully implemented.
